Challenges in Implementing EMDR with All Ages
Description:
This course will assist you in integrating EMDR therapy into your clinical practice by addressing common challenges therapists encounter when implementing EMDR therapy with clients of all ages. Whether you are newly trained or completed EMDR Basic training some time ago but struggle to use it with clients, this course will provide practical tips and tools to more effectively introduce, transition from other therapies, and deal with barriers to clients sustaining EMDR work.
Included are ways to structure sessions to gain ongoing commitment to EMDR work, how to create effective treatment plans for adults and children for trauma processing, and sustaining EMDR work while continuing needed problem solving or crisis management. Information and interventions are presented for each of the 8 Phases of EMDR work, with implementation, case conceptualization and target selection, stabilization and resourcing, processing, and difficult case presentations covered.
Common challenges that can hinder effective practice of EMDR therapy addressed in this course include clients (or clinicians?) uncomfortable with emotions, determining client readiness for processing, where to start--how much resourcing, which memories to target (past, present, future), and dealing with clients who chase ‘COWS’ (crisis of the week), talking away times set for processing and slowing down EMDR therapy.
If you have experienced any of these challenges or others, you are not alone! This course provides many tips, ideas , and interventions for each of the 8 Phases for clients of any age.
