Multi-cultural Faux Pas in EFT: The Benefits of Being Aware of Cultural Differences
Description:
Being open and committed to supporting minority clients will likely result in some missteps. In turn, minority clients are often hesitant to be transparent with clinicians in sharing that an encounter has made them uncomfortable. It is up to counselors to hold this space for clients to voice any thoughts and concerns. This presentation will explore common missteps in the counseling process with minority clients and how to address and repair those relationships. The concepts of cultural humility and affirmation will be defined and practiced by participants. The presenters will also discuss how to create a more inclusive practice or supervision space, and practical interventions addressing racial trauma. A resource list will be provided for participants. No prerequisites required.
This is an introductory program for all mental health professionals.
