Healing Our Core Issues II is the second training in this program. Healing Our Core Issues I introduced therapist to an approach to treating developmental and relational trauma. The focus in training I covers Mindfulness, Attachment Theory, Core Issues work, and Somatic process. Training II continues to focus on these concepts and now adds in two additional experiential processes. It
introduces how to take the DART assessment and build on this with training on how to understand and explore the concept Reparenting the Historical Self, which is derived from Gestalt and Cognitive Behavioral Therapies. Then building on this, those in attendance will learn how help clients reduce these negative thoughts and emotions from their developmental trauma through a Gestalt process called Standing in your Truth.
This is an advanced program for all mental health professionals.
Learning Objectives:
Report on their experience since training I as it applies to application of the 6 core issues. (1. Valuable/Self Esteem 2. Vulnerable and need to be Protected/Boundary work 3. Imperfect/Understand their Reality 4. Evaluating Needs and Wants/ selfcare 5. Spontaneous/ Moderate in life. 6. Attachment/Interdependence)
Participants will demonstrate competency in guiding clients through Reparenting Process.
Be able to apply all the elements of this model into a client’s on-going treatment plan.
Understand how this treatment approach can be used in a variety of clinical settings.
Be able to discuss and apply each part of the Healing Our Core Issues model as it relates to their clinical practice.
Review the Dart Assessment and learn to apply it to Reparenting the Historical Self (Inner Child work) experience.

About the Presenter:
Rick Butts, Ed.D, LPCC-S, EMDR, SEP, DARTT has extensively trained and been mentored over the past decade (2004-2016) by Pia Mellody, (Facing Codependence, Facing Love Addiction and Intimacy Factor). He has also trained (2004-2006) with Terrence Real (I Don’t Want Talk about It, How Can I Get through to you and The New Rules for Marriage) and gone through his Relational Life Training program. He has completed the three year Somatic Experiencing training program (December 2016) which is a body based trauma model developed by Peter Levine (Waking the Tiger, In an Unspoken Voice, Trauma and Memory). Other treatment modalities that he uses are Cognitive Behavioral, Gestalt therapy and has extensive group work training and teaching experience. He was a professor at University of Cincinnati for five years teaching the core principals of counseling. He is a life-long learner and challenges those who study with him with the belief that training is an ongoing exciting experience to be embraced. He is committed to clinical excellence. He also believes that a key component of this certificate program encourages those who go through the training to continually explore their “own story” and thus by going through their own material will be more authentically present with their clients.
