Betrayal Trauma from an EFT Perspective by The Washington Baltimore Center for Emotion Focused Therapy (WBCEFT)

Description:

Betrayal Trauma is one of the most difficult presentations. So many unknowns! How do I know it’s safe to do couples work? How recent is too recent to see a couple after a discovery? What about disclosure? How do I do that in the context of EFT? What’s a stage one attachment injury conversation? What do I do with a pursuer that keeps asking questions about the betrayal? What if I’m starting to get suspicious, too (like is the affair actually over)?

Kelly Bourque, LMFT and Certified EFT Therapist and Supervisor has developed a video series for the injured partner. This series, “You’re Not Crazy. You’re Not Alone. Betrayal Trauma from a Bonding Science Perspective” has gotten the attention of EFT therapists all over. From this series, Kelly has gained speaking engagements and has started offering workshops for other therapists on how to work with betrayal trauma using EFT. (By the way, Kelly is running a deal right now - you can buy one video series and get 2 to give away to clients!)

In this 3 hour live virtual workshop, you’ll get answers to some of the above questions. Together, we’ll help to make the unclear clear. Betrayal Trauma requires a lot of patience and compassion for both partners. Don’t forget that you need it, too! This is hard (and rewarding) work.

This is an intermediate program for all mental health professionals

Learning Objectives:

  • Participants will be able to define betrayal trauma and have a working conceptualization of its presentation as it relates to couples work.

  • Participants will be able to describe what a negative interactive pattern is and how to interrupt it in order to provide clarity to where the couple is stuck.

  • Participants will be able to identify areas in which it is unsafe to work with couples re: betrayal trauma.

  • Participants will describe a disclosure session(s) using the process of emotion.

  • Participants will be able to assess a stage one (when the couple is in current distress) conversation about a specific relational betrayal, either through use of video observation and/or role play demonstration.

  • Participants will be able to identify common trauma responses for the injured partner.

About the Presenter:

Kelly Bourque, LMFT is the founder of Red Therapy Group. With 15+ years of experience, she now works exclusively with couples, facilitating 3-day private intensives. She says therapy is her first love. “My clients show me the magic of humanity. I’m often moved to tears as I watch people find their way back to themselves and each other.”

Kelly holds a License in Marriage and Family Therapy in the state of TN and is a Certified Emotionally Focused Therapist (EFT) and Supervisor.

When not working, Kelly loves spending time with her three children and husband. They enjoy streaming the latest top-notch shows and love to travel.
